What is Jyotish/Vedic Astrology?
Jyoti means light and Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) originated in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago and it is an integral part of vedic philosophy, yoga practice and ayurveda.
Chart interpretation generally focuses on the four primary purposes in life: dharma (our capacity to align ourselves with natural law and to create purpose and meaning in life), artha (the capacity to generate wealth and gain mastery over issues related to money matters and business), kama (the capacity to fulfill one’s desires in relationship and society in general) and moksha (the capacity for spiritual development and knowledge as well as our liberation from this world).
In everyday language, this means that we should be able to determine the capacity of an individual to assign meaning and spiritual depth to life experiences (dharma), the capacity to master sustenance for self, family and community through career, position and authority (artha), the capacity to have appropriate desires and attractions in relation to our fellow humans (kama), and finally the capacity to overcome our attachments to the foregoing and to release ourselves from the ignorance and confusion of human existence (moksha).
